Chicago trip

So, it was Memorial weekend and we decided last minute to go on a road trip to Chicago. It was a very long ride, but since we left on Friday evening around 6.30PM I slept for most of the ride there and I didn't notice that it took more than 7 hours to drive.

Saturday morning we woke up late and decided to have the famous Chicago pizza for lunch. I already had "manana" and "vi-juju" (banana and grapes) for breakfast so I though we could skip past that meal. Wow, that pizza was certainly big! Not really sure how well I like pizza yet but I enjoyed the restaurant and the atmosphere thoroughly!

Then off to the Shedd Aquarium. How fun! They had so many fun sea creatures that it was hard to have the time to see them all!

Ahhh...there it is!

They had a fun place for kids to play with the water and plastic sea creatures too. I loved it!

The frog says "kwack" (that's what Swedish frogs say. Rippet is for American frogs).

Look at the view outside the aquarium! So beautiful!

I ran around with mom and dad...

...and mom and I took a look at the amazing view over the water (I said "wa wa" "wa wa"!  and was very exited!).

In the evening mom and dad wanted to see Frank Lloyd Wright's house. It was in a gorgeous neighborhood. 

I was too tired by this time though so I fell asleep in the car.

Unknowingly I missed out on the great architectural explorations that mom and dad did.

Chicago is an impressive city!

Sunday morning we wanted to go for a real Chicago artery clogging breakfast. According to our hotel concierge Lou Mitchell's is a legend that you cannot miss so off we went!

The line outside Lou Mitchell's was a sure tell tale of how popular this place is. The "Windy City" surely lived up to it's name this morning so the wait felt long, but little doughnut holes that were handed out make the wait feel shorter.

The breakfast was very good. Look at this dish!

Dad really enjoyed his breakfast....

....and I enjoyed mine!

Then off to the Chicago Institute of Art. However, by now it was time for my nap and I fell asleep before we even arrived to the first painting. While mom and dad studied famous artworks by Seurat....

....Toulouse-Lautrec...

.....van Gough... ....Monet etc. ect. I slept....

....and slept...

....and slept. All the way to the acclaimed painting "American Gothic" by Grant Wood. The lady taking said the Iowan's were offended by this painting since it portrayed them as being dumb and backwards. However, it the couple posing for this painting was Grant's sister and his dentist, since he could not find any Iowan's that looked as authentic as we wanted them to be. Curious!

Then, when we were just about to leave, I finally woke up. Just in time to read the museum guide for a little while before it was time to take off to the popular Chicago Pier.

Dad enjoyed a Chicago hot dog...

...and I went on a ride in a little toy train all by myself. Mommy anxiously waited by the side and cheered me on for every time the train made another loop.

What a beautiful, interesting, curious city Chicago is! We were so happy with our impromptu vacation!
